A Message From FEP President, Jorge Lopez MD FACEP
As emergency medicine advances through the early 21st century, Florida Emergency Physicians stands out as the recognized leader in acute care. FEP is privileged to deliver emergency medical care to more than 400,000 patients a year within Florida Hospital in the Greater Orlando area. The American Hospital Association recognizes us as the largest emergency department system in the United States. HealthGrades bestowed the Emergency Department Excellence Award in 2010 to Florida Hospital's Emergency Department system in metropolitan Orlando, placing us in the top 5% emergency departments in the nation, translating into a 39% lower risk-adjusted mortality for our patients.
Providing cutting edge care in the emergency department with programs such as the Brain Attack Initiative/Comprehensive Stroke Center, which includes an interventional neuroradiology pathway for stroke patients, or the Code STEMI program, which allows for immediate cardiac cath lab intervention for patients with myocardial infarction, has contributed to the US News & World Report recognition of Florida Hospital as one of the best hospitals in America. In addition to training future emergency physicians, our three-year
Emergency Medicine Residency Program serves also as the beacon leading the way in vanguard emergency care. FEP enthusiastically inaugurated the first Computerized Physician Order Entry program, CPOE, within Florida Hospital and we eagerly anticipate the next step, the Electronic Medical Record, EMR, to better serve our patients.
Florida Emergency Physicians embraces the opportunity to serve within this state of the art environment while looking forward to delivering the best emergency care possible to the citizens and visitors of Florida!

Things are hopping this time of year at East. We welcome our new director, Mr. John Baldwin. It's been a long time coming, and everyone is excited to have a leader. Dr. Marc Santambrosio is now the Chief of Staff for Florida Hospital East. He will have his hands full, but it's nice to have someone looking out for the ED. Residency faculty are busy winding down interview season for our new batch of interns in July. The residents are seeing some great cases and performing beyond our expectations.
