Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Florida Hospital is one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the country with a broad and diverse patient base. Our three year emergency medicine program has been accredited by the ACGME since 2007 and offers six categorical positions that begin each July.

The program is affiliated with Florida State University and the new University of Central Florida College of Medicine. The majority of the training takes place at the Florida Hospital East Orlando campus, which houses the administrative offices of the program and the busiest emergency department within our system with a current census of over 75,000 annually. The program takes advantage of the diverse patient population and our residents are working with several of the best specialists located throughout the entire system on subspecialty and tertiary care rotations.

The program has over 100 clinical faculty and a dedicated core and is quickly becoming one of the leaders in the southeast. During the regularly scheduled didactic program there are integrated presentations allowing our residents to learn and benefit from being within one of the largest health care providers in the nation. Applicants to the program apply through the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service.) Further information is available on our Academic website. http://www.fhgme.com/EmergencyMed/

Florida Hospital Emergency Medicine Ultrasound

The goal of the Florida Hospital Emergency Medicine Ultrasound program is to have the knowledge, skill, and experience to perform focused (US) examinations in the standard applications outlined by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) guidelines and to incorporate its uses in the daily practice as a means to provide immediate information and answer specific questions about patients' physical conditions when they present to our hospitals.

The EM ultrasound program while originally designed for the EM residency program is also being incorporated into the scope of practice for all of our providers. This has been accomplished by several hands on labs and training sessions at the Florida Hospital College.

The initial course format covers all primary applications over a 16 hour period and includes didactic lectures and hands on practice. The course covers Knobology (instrumentation) physics and primary indications as outlined by the ACEP guidelines.

During the three year emergency medicine residency program residents receive the comprehensive program with additional personalized attention and expert education by some of the best ultrasound educators in the country. Emergency medicine ultrasound is helping our program to become one of the strongest in the country.
